Information German courses Semester A and B academic year 2023-2024

Every semester, the HCGES offers German courses with different levels and intensities. Our courses are open to students and faculty members of the University of Haifa and to the general public.

What should you expect?

• Small classes
• Trained, native German teachers
• Integrated concept of language teaching – improving all skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Through a variation of activities, we will strengthen the students’ communication abilities.
• German as our teaching language
• Courses according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (A1-C2)

How will you be able to pass the course?
In order to pass this course and receive a certificate/credits, it is obligatory for students to:
• Participate regularly (minimum 80% of class meetings should be attended) -if you miss a class, you should ask the teacher/fellow students what you missed and catch up by yourself
• The final grade is composed of a written and oral exam in addition to semester tests, participation in class, and other assignments such as homework.

How much do you need to pay?
Students of the University of Haifa pay in the frame of their tuition fee and are required to buy the course book for 90NIS. (payment to the instructor on the first day of class). Other (external) students are asked to pay 2500NIS. This includes all teaching material.

How do you register?
If you are a student of the University of Haifa, you can register through the University portal – just type in the according course number. If you are an external student (not enrolled at the University of Haifa), please get in touch with Vered Cohen at vcohen1@staff.haifa.ac.il

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS FROM OTHER DEPARTMENTS

The beginner’s level for individuals without prior knowledge is A1.1. Enrolment in higher-level courses is only permitted following a placement test. Additionally, students are not allowed to enrol in classes below their current level of German. Enrolment in a course that has already commenced is only possible with the instructor’s approval.
