Information on German Courses for Semester A and B, Academic Year 2024-2025

Every semester, the HCGES offers German courses at different levels and intensities. Our courses are open to students and faculty members of the University of Haifa, as well as to the general public.

What to Expect:

  • An integrated approach to language learning — improving all skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Through a variety of activities, we aim to strengthen students’ communication abilities.
  • German as the primary language of instruction
  • Courses aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (A1-C2)

Semester A

Semester B

  • A2.1/A2.2 — Dr. Nicole McTaggart (Tuesday & Thursday)

How to Pass the Course:

To successfully complete the course and receive a certificate or credits, students must:

  • Attend regularly (at least 80% of classes). If you miss a class, please consult with the instructor or fellow students to catch up on missed material.
  • Final Grade Composition: The final grade will be based on a written and oral exam, semester tests, class participation, and additional assignments such as homework.

Course Fees:

  • University of Haifa students: Covered by tuition fees. Students are required to purchase the course book for 90 NIS (payable to the instructor on the first day of class).
  • External students: 2500 NIS, which includes all teaching materials.

  • University of Haifa students: Register through the University portal by entering the appropriate course number.
  • External students: Contact Polina Fainbark at pfainbark@staff.haifa.ac.il for registration.

Note: The University reserves the right to cancel courses if there is insufficient enrollment.


Important Information for Students from Other Departments:

  • The beginner level for individuals with no prior knowledge is A1.1.
  • Enrollment in higher-level courses requires a placement test.
  • Students cannot enroll in courses below their current German level.
  • Enrollment in a course that has already started is only possible with the instructor’s approval.
