Master Tracks:

Thesis Track

The MA thesis track demands to complete a set of mandatory and elective courses and to write a MA thesis in the end of your studies. In average it will take 2 years in order to complete your MA in Modern German and European Studies on the thesis track. 

In order to achieve your degree you have to fulfill the following commitments:  

  • 36 credit points
  • Credit points mandatory courses: 24 credits
  • Credit points elective courses: 4 credits
  • one seminar paper in the courses defined as seminars
  • Master Thesis: 8 credits
    length of about 80-100 pages; thesis topic to be found by student in conjunction with a supervisor; equivalent of about 4 to 6 month full time work

Non Thesis Track

The Non Thesis Track demands to complete a set of mandatory and elective courses and to write a final exam in the end of your studies. In average it will take one and a half years in order to complete your MA in Modern German and European Studies on the non thesis track.

In order to achieve your degree you have to fulfill the following commitments:

  • 36 credit points
  • Credit points mandatory courses: 24 credits
  • Credit points elective courses: 12 credits
  • two seminar papers in the courses defined as seminars
  • Final exam
    with disciplinary focus to be chosen by student; in conjunction with chosen lecturer topics, sample questions and reading list are to be determined
